Meeting was called to order by President Marty Brown at 7:35 p.m.

Minutes from the January 21, 2010 board meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s Report – George Jackson

-         Membership update – To date: 22 renewals (16 single, 3 family, 2 inactive, 1 non-resident); 3 new (Single – Astrup, Frey; Family – McFadden); 4 resigning (Ken Flynn, Art Barry, Barry Spagnoli, Michael Samach)

-         Reciprocal agreement with Mountain Lakes Club – The billing arrangement may need to be revised.  Currently, MLC bills the members.  Park Lakes may need to take over this function.  George to follow up.

-         George has requested quotes from several insurance companies.  We currently have policies that cover Liability (from Markel Insurance for $1,793) and Directors & Officers (U. S. Liability Insurance for $1,443.)  There was discussion about the potential need for Property & Casualty insurance and/or Worker’s Compensation.  It was felt that we should look further into securing coverage for Property & Casualty.

-         Banking – Park Lakes banks with Bank of America and new signatures are needed on the checking account and safe deposit box.  Marty, George and Meg will take care of this in January.  Our current balance of $10,490.68 was adjusted by $337.16.

House and Grounds

-         Paul Grabow reported that the high school student has been shoveling the snow off the courts for $25 per court and has been quite reliable.

-         Paul also noted that several repairs still need to be performed – court 2 light needs to be replaced; 2 fans need to be installed; parking lot light needs to be replaced; heater on court 2 is not working properly; several gates are in need of repair; propane tanks need to be checked to see if there is sufficient fuel.   Marty will follow up with Chas to see if Chas will do the work himself or if he needs Paul’s help.

-         With regard to tennis court 5, when Court Care comes in the spring to service all the courts, they will take a closer look at court 5 and discuss treatment options.

Social Committee

-         Glen discussed the possibility of holding two tournaments at Park Lakes.  He has talked with John Catlett about a paddle tournament against another club which would be open to all members.  Member Mike Fraser had expressed interest in holding a one-time tennis tournament to include employees of Novartis in an attempt to gain new members.  Glen will follow up on these.

Website

George noted that the website needs to be updated.  The calendar, officers, dues and committees need to be changed to reflect the changes.  Meg will follow up with Andy.

Membership Directory

-         There was much discussion about putting together the membership directory for 2010.  It is a very time consuming and costly undertaking.  There are two main parts to it: the selling of ads and the organizing & printing.  In the past, Paul Grabow has chaired a group of people that included Jerry Neeff, Pat Kelleher and Anne Greek.  The cost associated with soliciting ads, preparing the directory for print, and printing the actual booklet is quite significant.  There was discussion about whether the ads are worth the effort and expense, whether volunteers can take on assembling the directory and whether we should stop printing the actual directory and email it instead.  It was agreed that the cost must be reduced.  Discussion will continue at the next meeting.

Tennis Pro/Lessons & Clinics

-         Rose Marie reported that in January, Bob Nunez held 4 paddle clinics on Tuesday afternoons and 2 on Wednesday nights.  In February he held 4.  Clinics organized and subsidized by the club will finish in February.  Bob suggested that next season we begin the club-run paddle clinics in October.  Members interested in further lessons or clinics with Bob, should contact him directly.

Paddle Balls for Sale

-         Many members have been asking to purchase paddle balls through Park Lakes as they have been very difficult to find locally this year.  The last of the on-hand inventory has been sold.  Rose Marie Groves and Glen Cassella will look into purchasing cases of balls to have on hand and make available for sale to the members.

Items for next meeting:

-         Membership directory

-         Advertising – sign on Route 46?

-         Continued paving of parking lot and driveway

-         Investigation of restroom options – port-a-potty needed for paddle?

Meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Meg Richards, Board Secretary
