Treasurer’s Report

George Jackson submitted a printed treasure’s report and reviewed the numbers.

Membership

-         George and Meg reviewed the current roster to finalize the list for the membership directory.  Meg will begin work on the directory and will have it printed at Staples.

-         Membership – A few Park Lakes Members are also members of the Mountain Lakes Club (MLC) and asked about receiving the discounted membership rate.  George reiterated that the current agreement with MLC was structured to bring new members to Park Lakes, and as such, precluded current Park Lakes members from renewing at the MLC rate for a period of two year.

House and Grounds

-         Driveway – several pot holes were filled and some repaving was done, requiring 1 ˝ loads of asphalt.  The cost was $5,400 – more expensive than Chas expected.

-         Clean-up Day – scheduled for upcoming Saturday, April 24.  It was noted that some members felt they should not be asked to participate in club maintenance and that the club should hire the help and charge more in dues.

-         Clay Courts - Paul Grabow reported that Court Care has completed the work on the clay courts and that they now need to be rolled.  The rolling will be done by member volunteers, daily for four days.  Each rolling takes 2-3 hours to complete all five courts.  Paul will roll the courts on Friday, April 24 starting at 2:30 pm and will train Chas, John and Nick who will roll the courts the remaining days.  Jack Kahrs will also help with the rolling.

After rolling, the nets will be put up.  Glen Cassella will ask Jim Cassella, Walter Kaufman, Mike O’Donnell and Mike Zambri to help put up the nets on Friday, April 30.  The courts are expected to open the following day: Saturday, May 1.

-         Clay Court 5 – Court Care looked at the water drainage concerns with court 5 and reported that to totally correct the problem, the court would need to be completely redone.   Such a project is too costly for the Club at this time.  However, the court is slowly improving and efforts are being taken to redirect runoff water.

-         Awning – Nick Roccaforte will call the awning company about putting it up next week before the courts open.

-         Maintenance Man – Last year’s maintenance man, Jerry, is not able to return this summer and the Club is looking for his replacement.  The requirement is for 16-20 hours per week and the pay is approximately $12 per hour.  A reliable college or high school student was recommended and Nick will look into recruiting one.

-         Water Cooler – Nick will look into securing a different water supplier.

-         Paddle Courts – Several lights seem to burn out regularly.  Paul is not sure whether it is due to bad bulbs or a circuit breaker problem.

Reilly Green Mountain inspected the paddle courts and recommended rescreening court 2.  The cost to rescreen the courts would be $5,200 while the cost to tighten the screens would be $115 per court.

Advertising

-         Sign on Route 46 – Jerry couldn’t make the meeting but provided Paul with sketches of sample signs and pricing.  The signs were to be made of MDO and fixed in the ground on two stakes.  The Board felt the sign should be more traditional and suggested that Jerry get a quote for constructing a sign which is similar to the one we have at the entrance.  Also, it was recommended that Jerry simply take a photo of our current sign and present it to the owner of the Prudential building to see if he would be amenable to having such a sign on his property.

Social Committee

-         Paddle Championship – John reported that 24 players participated and 20 more members came out to cheer them on.  It was deemed a success.  Glen Cassella and Craig Marsden won first place while Jesse Silva and Casey Ramancionis scored second.

-         Sunday, June 13 was agreed upon to be the date for the first summer social.  John will begin working on the details.

Meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Meg Richards, Board Secretary
